Fika in swedish means having a break with friends, family, coworkers etc. The Fika is almost holy in Sweden and usually happens at least twice a day sometimes more……
You can have your Fika at home, at work or at a Café. The typical Fika usually consists of strong Coffee, Tea or Soda and Cinnamon Roll, a Cookie or two and sometime an open-faced Sandwich, Scrimp & Eggs are one of my favorite sandwiches, yum!!
I miss a good Fika place here in the L.A. area and would love to be able to open my own place, maybe one day! Now to my question, what would be your favorite Fika and Fikabröd (fika bread)?

Helene, I have to smile...I married a Swede you know, and the community that I live in is 80% Swedish migrants/settlers. Yes coffee and a sweet or rusk is the thing!
At Christmas we have a Kaffe Klaus with singing and Swedish fare by the choir members and then of course Santa Lucia appears...I must confess I can not do the lutafisk!

Helene, that sounds like a lovely tradition. Makes it sound so much more important than 'coffee break', we'll have to have fika at our MMP teas. Can't think of better friends to do this with.

Love the idea, DH and I always have a break at 11:00am for coffee and something to snack, atm caramel shortbread, then about 16:00 tea and cake. This gives us time to chat and catch up on anything, his blood line is from Finland so maybe the traditions are similar. Take care
Okay, Now I really miss Denmark. That is just too much like the old days! I wish you would open a place too, but here in Raleigh! I miss how wholesome the food is. Hi Helene,,,and what a lovely tradition. I love the idea of Fika. Meeting friends a pretty little shop with a tea room or coffee bar, lots of cute cupcakes. What could be better that that.
